In August 1965, not long after this article ran in Readerâs Digest, Bob Restall, his son Bobby and two other men were killed by a poisonous gas in a shaft on Oak Island. In 2014, the History Channel premiered the series âThe Curse of Oak Island,â which follows a team of treasure hunters who have used sonic core drilling, metal detectors and deep ground penetrating radar to try to solve the mystery. The treasure has still not been found.
