GREEN TIP:
Be a happy land steward. Pick up after others who have left trash behind so that those who come after you will enjoy a more natural hiking experience.
Miles and Directions
0.0 Start at the Confluence Trails parking area. Follow a path northbound a short distance to meet an asphalt greenway. Here the Blacklick Creek Greenway leaves right and the Alum Creek Greenway leaves left. Cross the asphalt and a small grassy area, picking up the natural-surface Bluebell Trail as it enters forest, descending. Come alongside Blacklick Creek, heading downstream.
0.3 Reach the confluence of Blacklick Creek, Big Walnut Creek, and Alum Creek. Continue downstream along now-bigger Alum Creek.
0.6 Join the Alum Creek Greenway and turn right, passing walnut trees, then bridge Alum Creek. The greenway next descends back to bottomland.
0.8 Turn right onto the Confluence Trail and hike up the west bank of Alum Creek under planted white pines. Shortly reach the confluence of the three creeks, then continue up Alum Creek.
1.6 Rejoin the Alum Creek Greenway. Turn right and immediately pass under I-270.
1.8 Pass the Madison Mills parking area on your left, then go under Williams Road. The parking area offers restrooms during the warm season.
2.0 Cross Alum Creek on an iron bridge. Continue upstream on the right bank.
2.1 Pass the Heron Pond area on your right and the lower end of the Heron Pond Loop.
2.3 Pass the upper end of the Heron Pond Loop. Keep northbound with Alum Creek to your left, now hiking through meadowland.
2.8 Reach a four-way asphalt intersection. Turn left on the Sycamore Fields Trail, soon bridging Alum Creek again.
2.9 The paved path splits. Stay straight and begin the loop part of the Sycamore Fields Trail. Pass by a parking area, a picnic area, and ball fields.
3.7 Complete the Sycamore Fields Loop. Backtrack across Alum Creek, then continue backtracking on the Alum Creek Greenway, passing the Heron Pond Area.
4.5 Bridge Alum Creek; you are now on the right bank, continuing downstream. Go through the tunnel under Williams Road and pass the Madison Mills Area.
5.0 Reach the intersection of the Confluence Trail and Alum Creek Greenway just after passing under I-270. Stay to the right with the Alum Creek Greenway, picking up new trail, and pass near a pair of ponds.
6.0 The Alum Creek Greenway bridges Alum Creek a final time and is the bridge you crossed earlier.
