Miles and Directions

0.0 Start east from Pioneer Village Road, on the Perimeter Loop Trail. Enter a field.

0.3 Dip to cross a rock branch. Keep northeasterly.

0.5 Bridge a small branch.

0.7 Emerge at Lukens Road. Turn left onto the paved but lightly traveled, crumbly asphalt track.

▶ Leave old farm and home relics for others to discover and enjoy for themselves.

0.9 Leave right from Lukens Road, near a gate. Enter woods with the Jonahs Run arm of Caesar Creek Lake to your left. Note the lotus blooms on the upper end of the embayment. You may also see waterfowl here.

1.1 Reach Crawdad Falls. Span Jonahs Run on a sturdy bridge.

1.5 Drop steeply to a branch.

1.7 Emerge in a grassy area with a picnic shelter in sight, as well as the Fifty Springs access road. Walk to the picnic shelter, then toward a restroom building. Look for a grassy path leaving left near the restrooms and the Fifty Springs access road. Join the grassy path as it becomes a natural surface forested trail. Ahead, a few abandoned nature trails may briefly confuse, but the main loop is easily the most beaten down track.

2.1 The trail makes an abrupt right. Stay with the most used path where faint junctions remain.

2.2 Bisect a closed, abandoned paved road.

2.8 Come within sight of a picnic shelter across the road. You are on one of the narrowest parts of the peninsula. Enter a meadow.

2.9 A spur trail leads right to a parking area. You can shortcut the loop here.

3.6 Reach a trail junction near a pond. Stay left, crossing the pond dam.

3.7 Come to another junction. Turn left for an out-and-back trek to a point and lake vista. Backtrack from the vista.

3.9 Emerge at the group camp, with a large picnic shelter, fire ring, and restrooms. As you look out from the shelter, look left, walking the paved loop for a foot trail entering woods.

4.0 Come to the narrow part of the peninsula, briefly join the main road then veer left, as the road turns back right.

4.3 Pass through a grassy picnic area with a shelter. The trail reenters woods on the far side of the shelter. Pick up an old roadbed and walk an easterly track on a bluff above Caesar Creek Lake.

4.6 Enjoy bluff-top views.

4.8 Pass by another picnic shelter.

4.9 The trail emerges onto a paved road. You can see a cemetery to your left. Turn right and walk the paved road, shortly emerging onto the main Fifty Springs Road. You can see the very first picnic shelter you accessed. Head toward the shelter, completing the loop portion of the hike, then begin backtracking.

5.8 Reach Lukens Road beyond Crawdad Falls. Turn left and leave right from Lukens Road after 0.2 mile.

6.7 Arrive back at Pioneer Village Road, completing the hike.
