CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

Nessa / Vee

The rest of Saturday and Sunday with Rush had been a huge success. He was the sweetest little boy and laughed more than he cried. He settled in as if he had always lived with his dad.

His attempts to say my name had been hilarious and eventually between the two of us we’d settled on Va-va, it was simple and easy for him to say and remember.

Not that he had problems with his memory or his speech, he was a clever little man.

His daddy doted on him and when it was time to take him back to his mother Spider insisted that I had to go with them.

The baby mama was a revelation, and not a good one.

She was a skank dressed up like a high society bitch whose eyes kept drifting to the juncture of Spider’s thighs. Sickening. And it was done in front of everyone gathered there with no shame whatsoever. A slut for sure.

I swear I even caught her licking her lips one time. Yuck.

He was silent when we drove away and I didn’t try to talk to him. The man had just left his crying son behind with people he didn’t trust and was obviously hurting.

At the compound he excused himself, saying he would be in his office if I needed anything.

I left him alone and went home to clean up and set the duplex to rights. He was still going to miss seeing Rush playing and running around his home but it might make it easier if it wasn’t right in his face.

Not knowing if he was going to come to the duplex to eat or stay at the clubhouse I prepared a one pan dinner. If he didn’t come home I could cover it and put it in the fridge for tomorrow. Easy.

It was a favourite of Magic’s. Thai green curry chicken and onions on a bed of basmati rice cooked in coconut milk. To make it more filling I added sliced potatoes and peas.

I was about to dish up for myself when the alarm beeped and the front door opened.

Spider walked in, smiling and sniffing appreciatively.

“Damn, that smells amazing.” He said as he came to stand next to me. “Thank you for cooking, you didn’t have to.”

“It’s not a problem. I like cookin’ and when I was on the road with Sky and Lee I didn’t get a chance to do it often. I’m happy to cook for us as long as you help with the dishes. I don’t like washin’ up so much.”

He grinned as he reached up, took a bowl from the cupboard and set it next to mine.

“We have a deal. You cook and I’ll clean. I’m not a fussy eater so whatever you make I’ll eat.”

“If you can grab the silverware and set the table I’ll dish for us and bring it through.”

He set the table and shortly after I brought the food to the table.

We ate in a comfortable silence and I have to say it felt good when he got himself another bowl.
