Miles in the Dark

I was nervous like a child in the middle of a hide and seek game. There was the anxious expectation of getting found mixed with excitement on top of being slightly panicky. I slowly pushed my hands out in front of me to feel for the sloping ceiling, then used it to start to lower myself to the floor. With Jake sitting below me, I let go and let myself fall onto him.

“Ummph,” he let out a large breath as I landed. “I didn’t know you were going to sit on me.” He sounded like he was smiling and accepting of my playful mood.

“Sorry,” I laughed a little, “I couldn’t help myself.” I reached over, feeling his broad shoulders to my side. I turned and positioned myself to face him, letting each of my knees fall to the sides of his waist, straddling his lap.

He didn’t say anything to respond. Then his hand moved up towards my face like he was also trying to see exactly how I landed.

As it found my hair, he sunk his fingers into it and rested his palm against my ear. He slowly moved his other hand around and behind my waist. “Do you know what else Coddy’s do?” He asked softly. It sounded like he was looking straight at me.

“No, what?” I asked with slight hesitation.

“They finish what they start.” As the words came out of his mouth, he leaned in toward me, pulling my head closer to his with his hand, and sunk his lips into mine. I relaxed against him. I knew what he wanted, and I wanted it to.

The kiss was long and slow like he had been saving it up and was waiting for the right time to bring it out and use it. His lips were soft and moist like he didn’t just travel through all the same frigid coldness that I had. He held me against him in a way that was gentle yet assertive. As we kissed, he slowly switched his hands and brought his right hand up toward the back of my neck and slid his left hand down to my lower back. With both hands, he pulled me in tight against him, then moved forward to position himself on his knees. Holding all my weight, he shifted his hand from my back, down under me; keeping the top of me firm against his chest.

He turned and moved a few feet forward towards where there was a small crack of light filtering in from under the door. Slowly, still holding me up against him, he lowered me onto my back. I was captivated. How could someone so strong and confident in their movements still be so gentle and tender with every touch? He took his knees still against the floor between mine and slowly widened them, pushing mine farther out toward the walls. He removed his lips from mine and softly started kissing my cheek, trailing from my mouth down and stopping on my neck just below my ear.
