COMPOSITION

The Scourge has two distinct organizational branches: the Combat and Engineer groups. The Combat group is simply all of the unit’s MechWarriors, currently organized as three slightly overstrength companies. The euphemistically named Engineers are in fact a motley array of mechanized infantry and battle-armor troops who are part anti-BattleMech specialists, part crack salvage team, and part disorderly mob of looters. Personnel transfer fluidly between the Scourge’s Combat and Engineer units based on recent exploits: engineers who capture a ’Mech are immediately promoted to the Combat group, while Dispossessed MechWarriors get shunted to the Engineers. The overall strength of the unit has waxed and waned with their fortunes, though first Wallace and now Stahl have always affected the rank of colonel regardless. Colonel Wallace’s death and the resulting infighting left many recruits on the outs, and under the Red Hunter’s aegis, neither branch of the unit has grown much past a battalion in strength as Ricol often recruits from their number directly.

The Scourge’s Combat branch fields a dizzying array of mismatched equipment, a result of their ironclad rule of giving each warrior ownership over any ’Mech they capture on a mission. This variety helps them convincingly pull off false-flag operations against nearly any opponent, but the logistical nightmare means individual ’Mechs fall out of service very quickly. The only discernible pattern in their equipment disposition is a preference for ’Mechs mounting industrial equipment, which are useful for their regular salvage and extraction contracts.
