T. Cogan: It took me a while to get that roach effluvium scrubbed from the lab.

T. Ayers: Hmm, that was an unexpected treat, wasn’t it? An entire bladder of volatile enzymes triggered to erupt upon penetration. It’s almost as though somebody doesn’t want us cutting into these buggers.

If the reports we are getting from the field are accurate, this accelerated “healing factor” deserves special attention, especially if we wish to find a counter before the trait is passed on to the other, slower-healing zerg species. And I believe that if this ability is derived from the constant breakdown of the roach’s own modified pharynx due to the passage of acid, then the lack of insulating mucosal lining there may be seen as a deliberate effort on the part of the Alpha organism. Another case of “shotgun evolution,” as you like to call it.
