Step 6: Obtain a new phone number

The next step in creating your eBay account is to obtain a new phone number in which you have access to. By new phone number I means BRAND NEW and don’t use a previously used phone number with any of your PayPal or eBay accounts. There are several ways to obtain a new phone number to use with your eBay or PayPal account. You can’t use a random phone number because when you first create your eBay account they will ask you to verify your phone number. I actually ended up changing my phone number after my registration and still have my PayPal and eBay account in good standing. Plus I can also use my current number for my next eBay or PayPal account if I ever need to.

First Option : Using an extra cell phone or changed number since your last suspension.

If you’ve changed your cell phone number since your last eBay or PayPal suspension then you can use that. This is a very easy way to go but if you don’t have two cell phones or a changed number look at the options below.

Second Option: Borrow or use a friends phone to verify the call

If you want and this is probably an easier way to do this is you can borrow a friend or relatives number and take the call on their phone. eBay asks you to verify your phone number when you first register and enter usually a 4 digit code. If your family member has a cell phone you can ask them for permission to use it with your eBay. I’m sure someone will let you use their phone for 2 minutes.

Third Option : Prepaid Cellphone

Now I will tell you from my personal experience I have used these a couple of times and they do work great. A prepaid cellphone can usually be bought at a local electronics or big box store. I’m going to talk about Tracfone here. Tracfone is a prepaid cellphone that gives you a unique number with each phone and costs around $10 for every phone. You get free 10 minutes + of calling time with your initial purchase but you can also increase that by paying more (you can get an additional 30 minutes for $9.99). Its available at Walmart and you can also purchase it online. I recommend this is over the Voip since you don’t need to pay monthly fees If you ever get suspended all you need to do it call Tracfone cancel your phone number and go get another airtime card and reactivate your phone. This will give you a new number without needing to go buy another Tracphone. These are available in Canada from Petro Canada Mobile (Gas Station) and 7 Eleven`s Speakout Phones. If you have your own phone you can just buy the Sim Card with however many minutes you may need. Be sure to do your research!
