The elbows sink, the fingers lift, another complementary relation. Also just as the elbows sink to allow the shoulders to transfer force along the arms, the elbows push towards the fingers.

The fingers pointing to the elbow also means that the rear middle finger points towards the front elbow. The rear elbow is low and stays close to the body (covers the heart). This means the elbows have to drop, which helps the shoulders to relax. This also serves as a contrast to the Santishi posture of Xingyiquan in which the rear elbow does rotate out to some extent.
