Chapter Eight

Logan woke with a sliver of light cutting through the boards above him to strike him in the eyes. He felt the gentle rocking motion of the boat and it felt like they were being gently pulled, probably by the tug. He looked around him and could see Mara and Kitty along with the pilot Derek and his sisters. Derek had a strange collar around his neck, in addition to being chained together with everyone else. Unfortunately, that included Logan as well. He also had some sort of a collar around his neck and shackles on his wrists and ankles. Mara and Kitty were still out cold, but Derek was awake, and he could see one of Derek’s sisters staring dully across the room.

Logan asked, "What's going on? What the hell happened?"

Derek said, "Your brother and a bunch of slavers happened." It looked as though he had been beaten again. "The damn slavers caught us. Once we had reached the shore to spend the night at the Imperial Rest Station, they came out of hiding and I had no choice but to give up. They had crossbows and threatened to cut down my sisters if I didn't give in. Then your brother hailed the camp. They came to... an understanding."

Logan remembered Ian hitting him. It was the last thing he could remember. "I can't believe this. I mean, Ian can be an ass sometimes, but joining up with slavers? This is nut's!" he yelled. There was a hard knot in the pit of his stomach and the sense of impending dread only increased as the door rattled.

Ian stepped through the door as it opened. He didn’t even look ashamed. In fact, he looked pleased with himself. “Good morning!” He said with a broad smile. “I hope you are all finding your accommodations satisfactory today.”

Logan gestured at the group of people chained together. “Ian, what have you done? Why do you have us chained up? This isn’t funny!”

Ian chuckled. “Logan, what happens to you is up to you. I don’t want to keep you chained up! Unfortunately, you have shown a recent - unwillingness - to choose blood over bitches.”

Mara shouted and strained against her bonds, “What the hell do you think you’re going to do, asswipe? Keep us here? This is just a fucking game! We can just log out and you can be sure I’ll report this crap to the Avatar Online people. We’ll get you banned for this.”

Logan said, “Don’t be stupid, Ian. She’s right. Let us out of these chains and we’ll all take down these slavers together.”

Kitty just hid behind Mara and didn’t say a word.

Ian shook his head. “You don’t understand... I don’t know why, but we can’t sign out. Have you tried, Logan? Mara? Have any of you tried? I have and no dice. We seem to be stuck here. Maybe it’s some kind of glitch and it’s only for a while, but maybe not. If we are stuck here then it sucks, but I can handle it.
