Hansuke saw the last photograph – Matilda’s house.

‘I’m going to miss your house and the bush right next to it. Spotting the kangaroos was awesome.’ Hansuke beamed.

Matilda felt tears roll down her cheeks.

‘Are you okay?’ asked Hansuke.

‘I don’t want you to go. Aren’t you sad to be leaving?’ Matilda’s voice wobbled.

‘Yes,’ said Hansuke. ‘But we’ll email each other all the time. You can visit me in Tokyo, and I know we will be back. Canberra has become our home too.’

‘You won’t forget me?’

‘How could I? I have a scrapbook of our adventures,’ said Hansuke cheerfully. ‘Now, let’s go see the other stalls.’
