A new storyline is created and is connected to the primary storyline just as the connected clips were. Notice that the shelf above the four clips binds them together, which makes it possible to add, modify, and even copy transitions within the new storyline.

3. Select the first edit point between alex at monitor and actress leaves car. Add the default cross dissolve by pressing Command-T, and then play the clips.

Just as you could in the primary storyline, you added a new transition to the edit point in this new storyline. The transition duration can be modified as well. To ensure a precise duration, let’s enter an exact length. You can reference the Inspector to see the change.

4. Zoom in on the transition, Control-click it, and from the shortcut menu, choose Change Duration, or press Control-D. Type 20, and press Return. Notice the duration change in the Inspector and the Dashboard. Play the clip.
