Stephanie re-read the note several times. Then she broke down in relief. Not a letter telling her to leave her alone, but a cry for attention! Freya asking for her help! Was that why Nadiel had let events at school today go so badly wrong - so that she could respond more quickly to Freya’s need? Of course! It had to be. Why else would he have allowed it?

She sat down to think. She didn’t know where Freya lived, or she could have gone over right away. Never mind. She’d find her at school first thing tomorrow morning. In the meantime she’d consult her angel books for everything she could glean about dark angels. She’d once been fascinated by the descriptions of fallen or destructive angels in various texts. Was that an accident, or had she become fascinated so that now, in a friend’s moment of need, she could reach out to Freya? Stephanie didn’t believe in coincidences. She would stay up all night if she had to.

‘I’ll help you, Freya Harrison,’ she whispered out loud. ‘Don’t think you’re alone.’
