Fuzzy Little Pigs

LUCAS

I CLOSE THE door behind me as I leave the greatest temptation I’ve ever faced in my grown adult life. The steam that surrounded Maddie’s body was as thick as the words I wished I felt brave enough to say.

Leaving her to shower on her own was the only right choice after tonight, and as much as I want to own her body, I don’t want what we have to be tainted by that piece of trash and the events of this evening.

I flinch when I realize that I never texted Damian and Tyler about what happened in the parking lot. The fucker should be dead right now. It’s a goddamn miracle that I let him walk away.

Me: I fucking found BRAD assaulting Maddie in the parking lot

Damian: Are you fucking kidding me!

Tyler: Where is he?

Me: He cornered her against her car and was touching her. I punched his lights out. Follow the trail of blood from the parking lot to whatever hole the weasel crawled back into.

Damian: Where is she? We should file a report before he has the audacity to consider reporting you.

Tyler: I’ll only repeat myself once. Where. Is. He?

Me: I don’t fucking know. I got her the hell out of there. We’re back at her place now. Damien, I’ll probably ask you to swing by later to talk her through this. She was pretty rocked. UNDERSTANDABLY.

Damian: I’ll keep my phone on. You should call Kit.

Me: I will, I just want it to be her choice.

Tyler: I knew that guy was messed up. Does she need anything?

Me: I’ve got it for now. I’ll keep you both posted.

I set my phone down harder than is necessary and breathe in through my nose, trying to calm the anger that’s creeping back up on me. Running my hands through my hair is the one move more telling of my internal torment than any other single thing I do. I pace back and forth in the space between her bed and the closed bathroom door, absentmindedly staring at her room and the pieces of her scattered around it. I inadvertently replay what I walked up on in my head. The whole thing is like some Lifetime movie that you can’t get out of your head.

Everything felt off when I saw Mr. Clements sneak away. As soon as I made it outside, I knew. It took more time than I care to admit to track her down. White cars are, unfortunately, the mom standard, and the parking lot was full of them. I have half a mind to go buy her a lime green Beetle just so I know I can always find her.

When I finally saw him, caging her in when every look on her face screamed that she didn’t want him anywhere near her, I saw red, and I ran. After that things were a bit hazy in my anger-fueled rage, but I know I punched his face with all the strength I had. I am pretty sure I broke his nose, and he still got off way too easy.
