Adam

I didn’t give a fuck about what Ghost had said.

I didn’t give a damn about the guard in the hall.

I wasn’t even thinking about the cameras.

Her cheeks had flushed, and her throat had vibrated with a moan under my mouth, and I was taking what was mine.

What should’ve been mine seven years ago.

I slanted my mouth over hers and sank my tongue into utter madness.

Before I could claim her with a single stroke, the cold steel of a barrel hit my temple. “Khalaf wants a word.”

Releasing her mouth but not her, I ground out a response instead of wiping the fucking floor with the asshole’s face. “Tell Mr. Al Ka’abi the next time one of his guards pulls a gun on me, it’ll be the last.”

“How about you tell him yourself, Mr. Hunt.”

Fuck.

Fuck.

I’d been made.

The barrel pressed harder into my temple. “Now.”

Tilting her head back up, I reluctantly released all of her.

Then I turned.

Holding a cell phone to his ear with one hand, the guard she’d called Amir made his first mistake. He stepped back to aim at my forehead. Saying something in Arabic, he then held the phone out.

“Mr. Hunt, I told you I never forget a face.” Khalaf’s voice carried through the phone’s speaker. “It seems we have much to discuss. Follow Amir and the woman won’t be harmed.” He hung up.

Meeting a dead man’s eyes, I gave fair warning. “What did I tell you?”

“I don’t listen to liars.” Pocketing his phone, he made his second mistake. He waved his gun toward the exit. “Let’s go. Your business here is done.”

My body still, my stare intent, muscle memory from years of training putting me squarely where I needed to be, I moved.

Grabbing the wrist of the hand that held the gun, I shoved up at the same time my knee made direct contact with his groin. Before he’d bent fully at the waist from the first blow, my next two hits made solid contact with first his jaw, then the back of his skull.

I grabbed his gun as he dropped to the floor unconscious, his skull bouncing off the marble.

Reaching for Roark’s keys in my pocket, I unsheathed the hidden knife on the car key and sliced through the zip tie on her wrists.

She spun toward me as she reached for the cloth over her eyes.

I bit out a warning. “You remove that blindfold, and I will take you over my knee.”

Her hands at her face, she froze. “What happened to the asshole guard?”

Filing away her response and the fact that she didn’t mention Khalaf’s warning or ask who I was, I stuck my head out of the open cell door just enough to glance up and down the still empty corridor. “He’s taking a nap.” I checked the magazine of the gun. Full. “Cover your ears.”

She didn’t hesitate.

Four consecutive shots and I took out the video cameras in the cell and the one in the hall. As the distinctive smell of gunpowder filled the room, broken glass and plastic littered the floor.
