For whatever reason, I feel more than a bit nervous about tonight. I’m in such a bad space right now that the last thing I should be doing is going to a party. It’s just that Ian makes me feel so good about myself. We really don’t know anything about each other, but he makes me feel sexy and desired. I can’t remember the last time any man has made me feel the way Ian does. He makes me forget how crazy my life is, even if it’s just for a short time.

Honestly, I think it’s knowing that his family is going to be there is what is making me nervous. The last two guys I dated never introduced me to their families and I was with each one for over a year. I’ve only known Ian for a couple of days. I’m just surprised he doesn’t mind introducing me to his family when he literally doesn’t know anything about me aside from what I’ve shared with him which isn’t much. I just don’t want to embarrass myself in front of them. My life is a hot mess that the least they know about me the better. Besides, it’s not like we’re dating, are we? I’m not even exactly sure what this is, but I really know that he makes me feel good and hopeful.

The nicest thing in my wardrobe is a gray summer-knit dress. It has a lovely colic collar and short sleeves with the length that falls just above my knees. The material is formfitting yet not too clingy, which is nice since I’m curvier than I’d like to be. This dress is dressy casual and will look nice with the wedges I bought to go with this dress and still haven’t worn.

It’s funny how I can look at my reflection in the full-length mirror and see a woman I don’t really recognize. My make up looks soft, my hair has a slightly textured that I’m wearing down. My overall look is fun and appropriate for a family get together. If you didn’t know me, I could actually pass as someone who has her shit together. Like someone who has a career and is going places. That’s the woman I want to be, not someone getting ready to be homeless.

Pushing the negative thoughts to the side, I grab my purse then head outside just as Ian is pull up to the curb.

“Wow, you look stunning.” Ian parks and gets out of the car to greet me. He kisses me tenderly on the lips and hugs me tight. I can feel his breath on my neck as he breathes me in.

“Mmmmmm, you smell good.” he takes a step back and looks me over again.

“Thank you. Is this appropriate for the party?” I ask.

“You look perfect.” Ian holds the passenger door open for me, then closes it once I’m inside. Having a man open any door is another first for me.

Ian is telling me about his family. His father passed a few years ago and his mom is very involved with the community.
