THELEV

Stretching, I walked back into the bedroom. The long shower was just what I needed, not that I had any desire to wash the taste of her from my skin.

I poured myself a drink and flicked through the TriD channels, but I couldn’t find anything I wanted to watch. I threw the remote on the side next to my percomm and lay back on my bed. At least the sheets still smelled of her.

My mind drifted back over the previous few hours. Remembering the sight of her naked ass coming down on my cock had me instantly hard. I ran my hand over my length, wishing it was her hand.

A pinging noise alerted me to the fact that a message had come in on my percomm. I ignored it. Whoever it was, it could wait.

But once I wondered if it was her, I lost my stroke. Rolling over, I hit the play button.

“Thelev, I need help.” It was Claire’s voice, sounding distressed.

I sat bolt upright in bed, the hairs on the back of my neck standing on end.

There was a lot of muffled background noise over the percomm, and then her voice came through again. “Thelev! It’s the fucking Qu–!” and the percomm went silent.

I felt the blood drain from my face. What the fuck happened to my woman?

She was just here. The scent was still strong in my bed. She couldn’t be gone.

I dressed without even realizing I’d done it and rushed out of the casino when I bumped into Draven.

“Hey, slow down,” he said. “You’ve got a face like a nuclear meltdown. Is someone about to die?”

“They will,” I replied grimly. “As soon as I find out who they are.”

“What’s going on?”

“Someone’s taken Claire,” I told him, the heat of my wrath rising through my bones like molten fire.

“What, your new woman?” he asked. “Elara said you’d met someone.” He said it with a teasing inflection, and I chose my next words carefully, knowing they’d piss him off.

“It’s one of those Quilthar who keep messing with Vinduthi property. First, they came for the promenade. Now, Claire. We need to send a message.”

“Right,” he said, glowering. “We’re not about to let a bunch of slimy dimwitted reptiles walk all over us. It’s time to hit hard and let them know the game is over. You seem to be the one most involved, so you let us know how you want us to strike.”

“Thanks, Draven,” I said, appreciating that he gave me room to handle this how I needed to. Draven tended to be the Vinduthi-in-charge around the casino, but this wasn’t directly a casino matter. I had a healthy dose of vengeance to deliver, and it would be that much easier knowing Draven was willing to sit back and let me do so.

I headed straight for the café, realizing the first thing I had to do was to find out where she lived. She was taken after leaving my place to return to hers, and if I had any idea where that was, I’d have a better chance of finding a clue to her current whereabouts.
