CHAPTER 16

Pressing his back against the warm white walls of Commander Kristine’s office and trying to ignore the boxes upon boxes of dataslates, files and Emperor knows what else. Interrogator Theodore watched his prey.

He wasn’t too sure why he regarded Commander Kristine as prey but it was probably something to do with the fact she was part of a radical group of people that sought to influence and control the Vigilance System for themselves!

Trying to see the positives in the situation, Theodore pushed those thoughts out of his mind and focus on Kristine sitting at her desk, looking at her holographic computer and telling Inquisitor Asche and Amy everything she knew.

As he breathed in the musty, stale air of the office, Theodore listened to the conversation, the fear and thread in Kristine’s voice as she was basically testifying in front of the two people who would ultimately decide her fate.

Theodore knew she would die in the end, she was a traitor in the eyes of the Inquisition, but the real question was simple: would it be a quick or slow death?

A part of Theodore wanted it to be quick because after all she did agree to help them, but he still wasn’t sure how helpful she would be.

He wouldn’t know that until he was called over and his Master told him what was next.

As he felt the warmth in the wall travel into his body, Theodore looked past the boxes, through the windows and up into the sky. He loved the view of the military base and all the flying vehicles but what he was really looking at was space.

A small part of him wanted to be up there with Hudson, supporting and protecting him, and loving him. But Theodore knew that wasn’t going to happen, Hudson had decided to cast him aside.

Theodore’s eyes wettened as he remembered how Hudson had called him everything under the sun, how he wasn’t manly enough to be an Interrogator, he was a joke, an emotional wreck and more.

Hudson had even thrown some things at him.

Shaking his head, Theodore brushed his purple scarf, hoping it would provide him with a bit of comfort. It didn’t. As much as Theodore wanted to move on, he couldn’t, he still loved Hudson, and it wasn’t entirely his fault why Hudson was so mad at him.

The sound of tapping made Theodore look at Kristine who was tapping her nails on her desk as Amy finished talking to her.

“Interrogator,” Inquisitor Amy said.

Theodore took a deep breath of the foul stale air and walked over to the holographic computer. He instantly smiled when he saw Amy’s youthful, beautiful face and nodded at her and Inquisitor Asche.

“You’ve been quite busy Interrogator,” Asche said coldly.

“Yes my Lord, my investigation is progressing. But I know the traitors are heading in system and we must act,” Theodore said.

Amy looked at Asche and gestured him to do something. Asche looked at Theodore.

“Interrogator, do you know who killed my Interrogator?”

Theodore felt his stomach twist. “Negative my Lord,”

“Then this may help you,” Amy said.
