CHAPTER FIFTEEN

NATHAN

The next morning, my eyes opened to the sun filtering through sheer curtains. For a moment, I forgot where I was, caught in that hazy space between dreams and waking. Then I felt the warmth of Cat’s naked body curled against mine, head nestled into the space between my shoulder and chest, and it all came rushing back.

Shaun’s wedding, the roar of laughter and fiddles during the Ceilidh dances, spinning Cat across the floor of the grand ballroom until we were both breathless.

We’d only meant to spend one dance together, yet I couldn’t let her out of my arms or my sight all evening. Her smile lit up the room brighter than the glittering chandeliers overhead. She charmed my friends effortlessly, like she’d always known them.

Then she’d surprised me in bed.

A grin tugged at my lips as I smoothed soft circles on her sleeping back.

When I’d left for Edinburgh, never in my wildest dreams had I thought I’d get to taste Cat again. Never thought she’d be the one to come on to me.

And now here she was, curled against me.

I shifted slightly, careful not to disturb her as I took in the details of her delicate features. Strands of her golden-brown hair splayed across the pillow, framing her face like a halo. Her lips curved into the faintest of smiles, and I wondered what dreams put that cat-got-the-cream look on her face.

I reached out to brush an errant lock of hair behind her ear and she stirred. Her mesmerising green eyes blinked open while a sleepy smile curled her lips.

“Good morning,” she mumbled as she shuffled away from me.

A jolt of heat shot through me at her smile.

She could bring me to my knees with a look, make me forget my own name with one kiss. If only she’d use that power more often. The fun we could have.

I’d been with countless women before, but none had ever made me feel this way, none had ever made me so much as think ‘relationship.’

Since becoming a household name in the US, I’d steered clear of committed relationships. Especially after a perfectly normal woman snapped nudes pictures of me.

Cat believed this thing between us would burn out, but I knew better. As stubborn as she could be, I was worse. Our first night together had surprised me, shocked me out of my apathetic existence and I’d mourned the thought of never seeing her again.

In one night, she’d convinced me that there were still genuine people in the world. I left her apartment believing I could be myself with a woman.

Hollywood had a way of blinding you, convincing you that the universe revolved around who you knew, who you were fucking, and who you were screwing over.

Cat was a breath of fresh air.

Who knows what I would have done if I hadn’t walked into her office on Monday morning?

She was a craving under my skin, in my every thought.

And after last night, I had no intention of giving her up.
