5. Click your mouse to highlight the option button next to I want to remove this tag. (If there is a different reason, select it from the dialog box and click there.) After you indicate that you want to remove the tag, click the Continue button at the bottom.

6. A new window opens, giving you three option buttons to select from:

• Remove the tag <friend’s name> created. Clicking this option button removes the tag and will remove the photo from your Timeline. The photo will still be visible in other places unless your friend removes the photo from Facebook.

• Ask <friend’s name> to take the photo down. This option will send a message to your friend asking to take the photo down. Facebook suggests (as do I) that this is the best way to remove the photo from Facebook. Hopefully your friend will post better photos in the future.

• Block <friend’s name>. This is the Facebook equivalent of having your friend walk the plank: Click here and you will no longer be able to contact each other on Facebook. You may still be able to see the photo and the tag on other friends’ profiles.

Should you ever decide to unblock someone you’ve previously blocked on Facebook, it’s easy: Just manage your Blocked List on the Privacy Settings page.

7. Click Continue and the tag goes away into the Facebook ether, never to be associated with your name on Facebook again. It will remain in the friend’s album, but someone would have to view the photo to see the image of you. After you’ve untagged yourself in a photo, no one but you can tag you in that particular photo again.

8. To merely remove a photo from your Timeline and not banish it forever, select the Hide from Timeline option outlined in Step 3.

If you’ve accidentally tagged the wrong person in a photo, you can undo your error by clicking the Remove Tag link.

Deleting a Photo

1. If you upload a photo by mistake — or simply decide you’d rather not keep that photo-taken-with-your-ex online — you can remove it. You can delete only the photos that you, personally, have uploaded.

If you want to disassociate yourself from a photo that someone else uploaded, you’ll have to settle for untagging yourself (see the preceding activity in this chapter).

2. Move your mouse pointer over the photo (without clicking): A Star icon and a Pencil icon appear. Click the Pencil icon and an Edit or Remove dialog box appears. (This option only removes the photo from your Timeline, and does not delete it completely.)

3. Click the photo to get to the Photo page and find the small Cogwheel icon in the upper-right corner.

4. If you click the down arrow next to the small Cogwheel icon, a menu will appear and show you some options, as shown in Figure 4-16.
