Chapter Twelve

“Sky, are the Conquerors good?”

“I really don’t know. On the surface, I’d have to say they’re not.”

“We must find out if they are.”

“That’s why you requested the two transports be built, isn’t it?” Edward nodded and stared at the monitor in silence as the huge warship moving ever closer to the edge of the Milky Way.

The giant warship arrived at the planet where the colony ship had stopped and the Ship Commander turned to his science officer and asked, “What can you tell me about what happened here?”

“Two things, Commander. First, that colony ship stopped at this planet long enough to plant crops to replace the stores they used to arrive at this galaxy. Second, about six months ago that ship left on a course for a spiral galaxy not far from this one.”

“How did you determine that?”

“It’s clear that farming operations took place on the planet and judging by the power of the ion trail the colony ship left, they must have left at least six months ago.”

“Is there any indication that the Rollons were confronted and attacked while they were here?”

“There is no evidence they were attacked, Commander.”

The Commander turned to his communications officer, “Connect me with the Fleet Commander.”

Sky announced, “Alright, this is where we find out if we’re going to attack that ship. I’m powering up my weapons.”

The Fleet Commander appeared on the monitor and the Ship Commander said, “I have arrived at a planet where the colony ship stopped about two years ago to plant crops to replace the food stores they used to travel to this galaxy. About six months ago, the colony ship left this galaxy headed on a course to another spiral galaxy. Do you want me to do a quick scouting mission in this galaxy before I go after the colony ship?”

The Fleet Commander’s expression turned ugly, “Commander, just what is your mission?”

“To pursue and destroy that colony ship, Fleet Leader.”

“Is your mission to scout every galaxy you encounter?”

“No, Fleet Commander.”

“That colony ship is moving further and further away and you’re suggesting you stop to scout a galaxy? You will carry out the mission I gave you and not waste time doing it.”

“Fleet Leader, we will be running short of stores before we arrive at that other galaxy.”

The Fleet Commander actually smiled before saying, “I will send another warship to rendezvous with you before you arrive at the next galaxy. It will be transporting additional stores for your ship.”

“Who will be commanding that ship, Fleet Commander?”

“Ship Commander Phame. Now get moving and don’t waste any more time trying to avoid your orders!”

The Ship Commander glanced at Terel as he ordered, “Set a course to follow the ion trail the colony ship left behind and pilot, take us to maximum speed.”

The giant warship disappeared from the edge of the Milky Way and Edward sat back in his chair. “Well, it looks like our subterfuge is still operational. Sky, how long will it take
