August 13, 1944. Surplus property is next on the docket. Murray, with an amiable tolerance that probably baffles the CIO but is certainly no surprise to anyone familiar with the Congress, has decided to line up with the same Bob Taft who only a day or so ago was among the leaders of his bitter opposition. Together with Tom Stewart they have drawn up a surplus-property bill and introduced it, and obviously, although there are seven other bills pending on the same subject, it is the Murray-Stewart-Taft bill which is going to get the go-ahead from Military Affairs. A liberal measure, sound in principle and practical of execution, it may be modified but its essential structure will probably emerge undamaged. This time Murray has joined hands with the one man he needs on his side to win. Had there been the same foresight shown a couple of weeks ago, the Murray-Kilgore debacle might have taken a different course.
