“I do not need to get back,” he informed her. “Might I escort you about the shops before we return?”

“Greg has opened accounts for me at all the shops!” she declared excitedly. “I do hope that you will assist me in making my purchases for I am absolutely terrible at choosing what looks best on me.”

“I shall gladly do so, my dear. Pardon me, was that too forward?”

“Oh, no,” she sighed, fluttering her lashes up at him as she drew closer.

“I have never envied a man so deeply as I do now,” he murmured, giving her a longing look. “Would that I had met you first… but it is not to be and I shall be forced to admire you from afar.”
