Joab the commander of David’s army stayed in Edom for six months and killed all the men there. But the boy Hadad escaped to Egypt with some of the Edomite leaders. Pharaoh gave Hadad a house and food. Pharaoh was pleased with Hadad and later gave him the sister of his wife in marriage. Hadad’s wife bore him a son named Genubath who was brought up in the royal palace with Pharaoh’s children.

When the LORD brings you into the promised land, He will drive out many nations before you. Do not intermarry with them. Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons, for they will turn your sons away from the LORD to serve other gods.
