Fishing (MACA)

A state fishing license is not required for fishing in Green and Nolin Rivers as long as you are within park boundaries. Bass, crappie, bluegill, muskellunge, and catfish are commonly caught in these waters.

Live bait other than worms is prohibited at Sloan’s Crossing Pond and First Creek Lake. Minnows and worms are allowed for river fishing. Fish size and quantity restrictions follow Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife regulations.

Did you know? (MACA)

Mammoth Cave earned its name from the size of its chambers and avenues, not from the prehistoric woolly mammoth.

Stalactites grow downward, hanging “tight” to the ceiling, while stalagmites grow upward, they “might” reach the ceiling someday.

In 1839, Dr. Croghan purchased Mammoth Cave. He believed its preservative qualities would aid in the recovery of his patients suffering from tuberculosis, which had no known cure at the time.
