Let’s Look at Haggai

Title

“Haggai” means “festival” or “the festival of Yahweh.” (Yahweh is the Hebrew name for God.)

The Temple must be rebuilt (Haggai 1)

A new Temple will be greater than the rebuilt one (Haggai 2:1-9)

God’s blessings will come as the Temple is rebuilt (Haggai 2:10-19)

The Lord God will overthrow the nations and will bless Zerubbabel (Haggai 2:20-23)

Writer

The writer was Haggai, the prophet. (See Haggai 1:1.)

PROPHET TO: The Jews who returned to Jerusalem after 70 years of captivity in Babylon.

OTHER PROPHETS AT THIS TIME: Zechariah. Haggai prophesied for four months. Zechariah, a younger prophet, prophesied for several years. Both of these prophets tried to persuade God’s people to finish rebuilding the Temple.
