Chapter 28

Istood in the bathroom, holding my damp swimsuit, trying to decide between that and the bikini that I’d also brought. Distracting myself from everything that had just happened was my primary focus. Only if Griffin mentioned it would I bring it up again. The man had come after him, not me, and he could deal with whatever he needed to on his end with his superiors or whatever.

All I really wanted was to lay on one of the chairs in the sun and nap. To close my eyes and think about nothing. Not men jumping out in the dark or off ski lifts, or Sam, or a meddling Cara. I didn’t really care about getting back in the water, and that made the idea of putting on a damp swimsuit daunting.

But the other option was a bikini. I also didn’t want Griffin to get the wrong idea, but on the other hand, I didn’t want to be wet.

Sighing, I decided on the red gingham bikini. It would also be better for more tan coverage. Though I hoped that it wasn’t too inappropriate to wear in front of two of my students, since it showed a little more skin than the one piece.

I also wondered if there was a way to avoid them noticing the small tattoo that ran up my ribcage on the left side of my body. It was a simplistic line design of a small butterfly trail and pretty flowers. Thin and hardly noticeable, but it would definitely spark some teasing if Griffin saw it.

Oh, well. Hopefully the three of them were so occupied lounging in the pool that my presence wouldn’t be noticed. Twisting my hair up into its usual claw clip, I walked from the bathroom into the main room. The boys had already disappeared into the pool room, so I quickly grabbed a few towels from the closet just outside the door, just in case they’d forgotten.

As quietly as I could, I slipped inside to find them splashing about. Laughter and shouts echoed as Griffin mercilessly dunked them despite Jackson and Dayton’s best efforts to avoid him. Padding across the damp concrete to the far side, I pulled a chair into the bright sun that blazed through the glass windows and laid down flat on my belly.

Untying the top of my swimsuit from the back, I closed my eyes, wriggled into a comfortable position and promptly fell asleep. I briefly woke up an hour or so later, lazily tying the swimsuit back up and rolling from my back to the front before falling back asleep in the steamy warmth to the sound of lapping water.
