No mercy. The Xeno-5 drone accelerated like a bolt of lightning. In just a few seconds, it was already many hundred meters up. Its soft shape slid through the air like a hot knife through butter. Continuously, its high-capacity processors worked and processed all the information it was collecting from its surroundings. The landscape around it was a mixture of low mountains, elongated hills, and ice.

The vast glaciers covering large parts of Iceland’s interior stretched west and south. The Xeno-5 drone made a wide turn and sped up even more. Its powerful engines revved, the drone’s pace now a little more than two hundred kilometers per hour. But it wasn’t the speed that made the Xeno-5 so deadly. It was the drone’s extremely sophisticated tracking system.

Ordinary drones had the disadvantage of needing an external operator to control them. Each drone sent away on a mission required a veritable army of system engineers, pilots, and computer specialists. During a mission, a handful of people could take control of a drone; one would navigate the craft to the target area, a second would then take control and carry out the mission, and after that, a third would pilot it over large geographical areas.

But the Xeno-5 was unique in that it was completely autonomous. Its interior housed a highly advanced artificial intelligence far beyond that of any other drone in the world. And that’s what made the Xeno-5 so deadly—its sophisticated AI, along with its unique targeting system.

Inside the drone was an advanced system for detecting and tracking DNA. If you had access to your target’s DNA profile, you uploaded the profile to the Xeno-5 drone’s target system. After that, it had everything it needed.

The only other thing it required was an approximate geographical area that the target would be in. After that, the Xeno-5 took care of the rest. With its compact but effective high-speed automatic weapons, it was good to go.

The Xeno-5 continued a hundred meters on a southeast course. The temperature had dropped to just under fifteen degrees, and the humidity had risen. Its sensors recorded everything and adjusted its path toward the target area as it sped up to two hundred and fifty kilometers per hour. Its sensors and cameras increased the power of the data flow as the drone approached the target.

The glacier’s surface slowly shifted from a dirty gray to a more wavy, clear texture. There were just four kilometers left. The Xeno-5 dropped slightly and adjusted its course as clouds rolled in from the west. The drone’s cameras zoomed in on the target area high up on the side of the approaching mountain. At first, it was just like a dark dot on the horizon, but its shape clarified as the Xeno-5 got closer. The structure on the mountainside looked like something from a movie—massive, horizontal walls of reinforced concrete rose fifty meters up and sloped outward at an angle.

The space between the walls was covered by a latticework of glass and steel. The setting sun
