This huddle of barrack-style huts called Old Camp forms the oldest part of Kangerlussuaq. American servicemen were housed here while building the airport and the rest of the settlement. The vandrehjem (youth hostel) is located here. All kinds of activities are offered throughout the year.

Follow the road called Umiarsualiviup Aqq, which is flanked by yellow barrels as it climbs above the Kangerlussuaq fjord. Maybe take a break at the top of the road, where a picnic bench overlooks the airport runway. Views stretch past Kangerlussuaq to the distinctive dome of the Sugar Loaf, with the ice cap glimpsed beyond. Tasersuatsiaq, or Lake Ferguson, can be seen across the heavily silted fjord.
