Stein to Pfunders

Refreshments Drinks are available at the Obere Engbergalm, about 5hr 30min from Stein, but food will need to be carried.

Routefinding Navigation is easy and the route is generally well marked.

In Italy, with glimpses today of the Dolomites, it’s tempting to think that the last lap has started. Such thoughts however would be distinctly premature – there is still lots of walking to do!

Stage 13 is a varied and dramatic. The highlight is definitely the climb up to the pass at the Gliderschartl and with amazing views on the way of the Hochfeiler, the highest mountain in the Zillertal Alps, and Höher Weißzint and the glacier that flows down it.

Once the pass has been crossed it’s downhill all the way. The stretch from Dun to Pfunders, which looks a little boring on the map, is surprisingly pleasant and follows an old engineered trail that may have had a military past.
