Chapter Fourteen
Sami
CLAREY AND I are still tied to the damn pillar between us. My arms are numb while my shoulder throbs in constant pain. Weâre cold as hell as the sun goes down. This time I can actually see whatâs going on with the window directly across from me. Itâs not covered up by anything to block out what time of day or night it is. While I can see the light of the day, I canât tell where we are based on any buildings close by. Clarey canât see a damn thing on her side without a window to show her anything. Weâve been left in the dark with the lights turned off in the basement. Since we were wearing shorts and tank tops at the clubhouse while cleaning, the coldness is seeping into our bones. Still, weâre dressed more than any of the other girls being kept in cages down here with us.
The cages closest to us have been left open since no one is currently occupying them. Itâs just a matter of time before theyâre filled though. One of the guys who brought us down our dirty water to drink and half of a piece of bread to eat, was talking about another shipment of girls coming in from somewhere. These girls have already been sold off, as have many of the ones already in here with us. Theyâre going to be held here until the men load them up in the shipping containers to be transported to their new owners. Literally.
âI-I-Iâm s-s-so c-c-cold,â Clarey says as her arms shake between the pillar and my back. âIs this what you went through before?â
âY-Y-Yeah,â I answer her, my own body trembling in the cold air.
It honestly feels as if they turned an air conditioner on the lowest possible setting and closed it in the room with us, I know itâs just from the temperature dropping as the sun leaves the sky. However, it doesnât mean weâre going to be protected from the weather just because weâre in this building. There is no protection despite the thickness of the concrete walls when weâre sitting on the floors which are just as cold as temperature outside.
âHave you tried thinking warm thoughts?â I ask Clarey, not really meaning the suggestion.
âYeah, Iâm not delusional yet. There are still some thoughts in my head regarding our current situation. No food. Water I wouldnât force my ex to drink despite what he did to me before they killed him off. We donât even know where weâre being held or if the guys are anywhere close to us,â she tells me, her voice filled with pain and coldness.
âItâs the same thing they did to me when I was being held before. The only difference is getting a half piece of bread. We really werenât given anything to eat when I was held hostage before. Now, Iâm just waiting for Claw to make his move. If he canât get a girl the normal way, thereâs a reason for it.
