CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
Jorja
Tommy hung out of Rushâs sunroof, singing a song I had never heard at the top of his lungs. We had already dropped Jena and Wren off, Beck and Becca stayed at the lake and swore theyâd just sleep there and not attempt to drive, so it was just Rush and me with a very wasted Tommy. Rush held onto Tommyâs left leg as he drove, because if he didnât, heâd probably have killed himself by now. I was so glad I stopped drinking when I did. Rush needed another sober person to deal with this idiot, and I needed a straight mind when I finally got him alone and could talk to him.
âTommy, get your ass back inside!â I shouted through laughter. As bad as he was frustrating the hell out of me, it was still hilarious.
âWeâre almost to his house,â Rush said as he took a turn, making Tommyâs body shift and fall back into the truck right on top of me.
âHey, gorgeous,â Tommy said in a slur as he sat up with his face not even an inch from mine.
âYouâre so drunk.â I pushed his chest so heâd move off me.
He sat down in the middle and laid his head on Rushâs shoulder. âRush rhymes with dick.â
Rush chuckled. âYou need to go back to kindergarten.â
It was good to hear Rush laugh. It gave me hope that he wasnât too terribly pissed off. I covered my mouth when I started to laugh.
âI see you laughing over there,â Rush said with a smirk.
Tommy sat up and put his finger in my face. âYou should let Rush in. Youâre all bolted up like a bank at night. Heâs good for you, Jorja.â
The way his words were slurred made me roll my eyes. I laughed because doing anything else would blow my cover. âYou need to go to bed and sleep off that cider.â
âOkay.â He leaned his head back against the seat and immediately started snoring.
I peered around him at Rush. âHow much did he even drink?â
He shrugged. âItâs Tommy. Probably too much and not enough.â
When we got to Tommyâs house, Rush parked, and we went back and forth about a plan to get him inside without waking up his parents. We ended up just winging it and going with no plan at all. I stayed in the truck and watched the entire thing go down. Rush had Tommyâs arm draped around his shoulders and he had to coach Tommy the entire way inside. At one point, Tommy stopped and threw up on his front lawn. I watched as they went inside, and the door shut behind them.
I sat up to get a better look when I saw Rush walk out with Tommyâs dad following. They talked for a bit before Tommyâs dad went back inside. Rush rubbed the back of his neck and kept his eyes on the ground as he headed this way. I sat back against the seat when he got in and shut the door.
âHow pissed is his dad?â
âOnly a little.
