One disadvantage to knots and lashings is they are not as easy to adjust as Whoopie slings or hardware options with webbing straps. Some secure knots are used in climbing and rappelling, including the figure-8 knot and bowline. However, these knots will bind once weight is applied, so they are not practical if you are planning to untie and adjust the rope. Webbing on webbing, or rope on webbing can heat up and melt once pressure is applied. Check for wear and damage after each hang.

One knot that works well is a slippery Lark’s head or girth hitch tied to a climbing carabiner at the anchor point. I first tried this method on my Hennessy Hammock, using the stock rope that came with the kit. I got tired of lashing the rope because I always had to make some minor adjustment to the hammock before I was satisfied.
