LAST, BUT NOT LEAST, WHAT IF?

What if you do not get in to nursing school? What next? This is worth thinking about so you have a Plan B. You always need a Plan B. Let's think about 10 hard questions:

1. Do you have backup schools?

2. Do you need to improve the grades you received in the prerequisite courses?

3. Will you apply to community colleges?

4. Will you look at private schools?

5. Will you go for a liberal arts baccalaureate degree and return as a second Bachelor's nursing student?

6. Can you take a year off? Will you work for a year between high school and college?

7. Can you work in health care?

8. Will you consider being a nursing assistant to get some valuable experience?

9. Was nursing the right choice for you?

10. What is another major that interests you?

Believe it or not, if you consider all of these questions, you will go into your application, essay, and the interview with more confidence because now you have a backup plan. Rejection will not feel good, but it will not be the end of the world. Not being accepted means that there are other things for you to do rather than nursing, or that nursing is a goal and you have to be better prepared to achieve that goal. If "what if" occurs, give yourself some time to regroup and then follow your dream no matter what?
