Andi was still fiddling around inside her car as Hall and Charlotte approached. She opened the trunk, having a few shopping bags to get out. Just as she got them out and closed the trunk, Hall and Charlotte sped up. They had to get to her before she went inside her house.

Andi started walking up the pathway to her home. Hall and Charlotte made their way up the driveway.

“Excuse us,” Hall said, putting his hand up to get the woman’s attention.

Andi turned around and quickly sized the two of them up. She didn’t get a great feeling about them, but she stopped, waiting to see what they wanted.

“Yes?” Andi asked.

“Hi. We just wanted to see if we could talk to you for a few minutes.”

“About?”

Up close, she was even prettier. She had that natural beauty, the kind that didn’t have to be aided by makeup, of which she wore very little. If she was a con artist, and they had no reason to believe that she wasn’t, especially with Riley’s say-so, her attractiveness was probably a huge part of her bag of tricks.

“Um…” Hall stumbled over his words for a second, rubbing his forehead. It was like he’d lost all of his thoughts in her presence.

Charlotte angrily tilted her head and glared at him, shaking her head. “Unbelievable.”

“What?” Andi said.

“Nothing. We’re here to talk to you about Seth Windell.”

“Who?”

“Seth Windell,” Charlotte said. “You were with him last night at the club... Club… whatever it’s called. You know the one.”

“I’m afraid I don’t know any Seth Windell. I have to get inside. Excuse me.”

“He’s dead, you know,” Hall said, finally breaking free of his trance. “Or did you know that already?”

Andi had turned to leave, but stopped and turned around once she heard the news. She had a shocked look on her face that indicated this was the first she was hearing about it.

“What?”

“Seth’s dead,” Hall said. “Did you know that?”

Andi shook her head, like she was in denial. “No. No, that’s not true.”

“Oh, so you did know him?” Charlotte said.

“Who are you guys?”

“My name’s Brandon. This is Charlotte. We’re private investigators.”

Andi kept shaking her head. “I’m not talking to you.” She turned around and marched to the front door again, putting her keys in the lock.

“If you don’t talk to us, I guess you’ll have to talk to the police,” Hall said. “We were hoping you could avoid that. But if that’s the way you wanna play it, I guess we’ll have no choice.”

With the keys hanging out of the doorknob, Andi turned around again. “The police?”

Hall nodded. “That’s right. We found out you were involved in this, and one of the conditions of getting your name was that nobody talked to you except for us. But if you’re not willing… I guess all bets are off.”

“Who told you about me?” Andi asked.

“I’m not sure that’s important. What is important is that we’re here and the police are not. And it can stay that way if you talk to us. But if you don’t, like I said, then all bets are off.
