She would have to thank Kaliha for setting up this trip.

As much fun as the game drive had been, this was a different experience altogether. Sierra felt like she’d just checked into the Waldorf, the houseboat was that ritzy. Only, the hotel was floating on one of the most breathtaking rivers in the world. She’d seen pictures of the Chobe on various travel sights before upon learning she’d be traveling to Valhali, but none of them had done the river justice.

The water was a shade of azure blue she’d never seen, the riverbank dotted with all sorts of fowl. Thick cotton ball clouds hung in a baby blue sky with the sun shining bright.

Her senses were in complete exhilaration mode.

Whatever lucky star had led her to be here today, she was more than grateful. Dante strode over to stand next to her. She had him to thank as well. Dante was the real reason she was here.

He pointed to the distance. “You see that?”

She followed the direction of his finger, her mouth falling open upon realizing what he was pointing to. “Is that a crocodile?”

He nodded. “It sure is,” he said, then added, “Wait. Maybe it’s an alligator. I never could keep track of the difference.”

She laughed at his exaggerated confusion. “Either way, it’s a sight to behold. I’ve never seen one of those outside of a zoo.”

“Don’t you want to get your camera,” she asked, “to take pictures of all of this?”

He shook his head slowly, turned his focus on her face. “I think I’ll just enjoy the scene firsthand today rather than through a lens.” His gaze never left her face as he answered her. The words were innocuous enough, but the tone in his voice and the way he was looking at her with darkened eyes sent a shiver of awareness down Sierra’s spine.

She couldn’t help where her mind drifted, imagining how things might have been between them if circumstances were somehow different. If fate had given Sierra a far different role in the life of Nocera’s crown prince.

The idea that she might be enjoying this outing with the man she loved was almost tear inducing. If Dante were her man, he might step behind her now, wrap his arm around her waist as they took in the view together. He might nuzzle her neck then turn her face toward his, tilt her chin to drop a soft kiss on her lips. A soft kiss that might lead to longer, deeper ones.

She looked at him now. He hadn’t bothered to shave, and a hint of a beard dusted his chin. The wind ruffled his hair. What would it feel like to run her hands through the waves at his crown? Or to feel the stubble on his chin against her skin. A shudder racked her body.

“Where did your thoughts just drift off to?” he asked, his voice velvet rich. Heaven help her, he sounded as if he knew the answer to that question, and that possibility had her insides shaking.
