Sixteen seconds later he was back, moving swiftly through the dark shadows of the SL-13 hallways. Sydney abruptly stopped in a corner alcove and threw up.

Chapter 45

After he puked for a second time, Luke felt his way in the darkness from his chemical toilet back to his cot. He wasn’t exactly sure how long they’d been without power, but he was sure it’d been long enough that it was never coming back on.

He lay silent and scared on his cot in the dark, flinching at the crashing and thrashing sounds happening above him. Smashing glass, anguished furious cries of frustration and tables being flipped over skewered his senses. Luke feared that whatever dream had been carrying Adidas Man for the last few days had just had a head-on collision with a nasty nightmare.

He was certain that life would get much darker before there was ever to be light again.
