Arunachal only recently opened its borders to tourists and the infrastructure is still developing. There are not many restaurants to be found outside the capital, Itanagar, and, even then, few serve local food beyond momos and thukpa (though you can get Punjabi and Chinese)—two food items you will easily find in dhabas across western Arunachal. Hotel Donyi Polo in Itanagar will prepare local dishes on request.
If you want to experience tribal cuisine in Arunachal seek out a culturally sensitive travel organizer such as Help Tourism (see the Assam chapter) and ask for a food-focused trip.
