“Okay, you were right. The view from up here really does make the sunset look more magical.”

Andy grins at me. “Check mark for another amazing thing in Cedar Point.”

“You act like you can only get sunsets here,” I say in response, though I return his grin. “They literally exist everywhere else in the world.”

He just lifts a shoulder and points at where the sun is dipping behind the trees in the distance. “Not that sunset.”

When I pulled up in front of Andy’s tonight in my brother Boyd’s beat-up old truck, he hopped in, telling me the truck was a much better choice for where we were headed. Then he proceeded to take me the short drive down to the South Bank Resort, and up along a winding road that leads to a clearing.

“I still can’t believe you actually brought me up to Easy Street,” I tease, using the nickname other locals use to reference the known hookup spot in Cedar Point.

“Oh, like you’ve never been here before?” he jokes back.

His easy grin falls away, though, when I shake my head.

“I didn’t date a lot, you know?” I tell him. “Besides, the only guy who would’ve brought me up here was Nick, and we both know his plans would have looked a little different than mine.”

Andy’s eyes narrow. “I still can’t believe he said that shit to you.”

I wave my hand, shifting where I’m reclined on the hood of the truck to get more comfortable. “I don’t like to spend my time thinking about him,” I say. “He was a mistake from the past, and I’ve more than moved on. The only thing I wish I could change is that he was my first kiss, you know?”

“You were a junior in high school for your first kiss?” Andy asks, surprise in his voice. I turn and narrow my eyes at him, and he raises a hand. “Sorry, I said that wrong. It made it sound like there was something wrong with you. All I’m saying is…I can’t believe someone didn’t try sooner.”

“Maybe you don’t remember what I looked like back in high school,” I tell him, “but pigtails and braces aren’t the typical look 15-year-old guys are interested in.”

Andy chuckles and rubs at the stubble along his chin. “I, uh…actually do remember what you looked like,” he tells me. “I may have… Okay, this is embarrassing to admit, but I may have gone through my old yearbooks after you interviewed for the job.”

My eyes widen. “Oh, jeez.”

“I was trying to remember what you were like back then because you just seemed so…different.”

Shaking my head, I look off in the distance.

“So now you know why I was a junior before anyone wanted to kiss me,” I admit. “And why the only guy who did want to kiss me was just in it for shitty reasons.”

Before I know it, Andy has shifted our bodies so we’re no longer reclining next to each other but are pressed together. One arm wraps around my shoulders and the other hand takes my face so I’m looking straight into his eyes.
