Angels Tell Shepherds about the Baby Jesus
From Luke 2:8â19
(2 minutes and 30 seconds plus optional hymn)
PROPS NEEDED:
Mangerâdown left, Doll (remaining from Scene 3)
ACTORS:
Shepherds, Sheep, Angel Gabriel, Other Angel(s), Mary, Joseph, Narrator 1, Narrator 2
(Shepherds enter and walk to stage right. Mary and Joseph stay kneeling at the manger down left.)
NARRATOR 1 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
(Angel Gabriel enters up center.)
NARRATOR 2 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
(Shepherds kneel or crouch in fear.)
NARRATOR 1 And the angel said unto them â¦
ANGEL Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
(Other Angels enter and stand close to the first angel.)
NARRATOR 2 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying â¦
OTHER ANGELS (OR NARRATOR 2)
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
OPTIONAL HYMN
Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
(All Angels exit.)
NARRATOR 1 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, âLet us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.â
(Shepherds go over to Mary and Joseph and kneel, looking at the baby Jesus.)
NARRATOR 2 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
NARRATOR 1 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
(Shepherds rise and exit, pretending to be telling people about Jesus.)
NARRATOR 2 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
(Mary looks at the baby Jesus, and then she stares up into the sky.)
NARRATOR 1 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
(Mary picks up the doll, and she and Joseph exit. They leave the manger.)
