CHAPTER 22

It was the night before Thanksgiving, and Trinity was getting annoyed. She’d checked the time for the drive when she’d left the office, and it had been four hours then. It had actually been closer to five and a half, and she was supposed to be lying next to Paisley in bed after having great sex by now. Trinity kept telling herself it was okay. She had more than just one night. They’d agreed that she’d stay for a few days, which she considered to be Paisley taking a pretty big step. It was a lot to ask of someone who didn’t date because work took priority. It was already a lot that Trinity was going to Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow with Paisley’s family, of course, but that had been Paisley’s mom. While she knew Paisley would tell her not to go if she didn’t want her there, Trinity also didn’t want to make too much out of this. Paisley’s mom had not one but two potential suitors there for Paisley, and Trinity being there was helpful for Paisley because it meant she was off-limits to said suitors. It didn’t have to mean more than that.

After Paisley left, Vidal and Trinity talked at length about what would happen next for them, and Trinity realized she had no answers. She’d been the one to tell Paisley that they’d take it day by day, that they’d figure it out in time, and it would all be okay, but now, she had five and a half hours of thinking behind her, and all the scenarios were rolling through her head. They were still only dating, but Trinity wasn’t someone who dated around. Paisley was, even if she didn’t call it dating. The woman at least had sex, and Trinity was ready to tell Paisley that she wanted to be exclusive in that regard, even if they weren’t an official couple. Trinity wanted that, though. She wanted Paisley Hill to be her girlfriend, and even that sounded strange to her: Paisley Hill could eventually be her girlfriend. Trinity shook her head and made the last turn her phone told her to take in order to finally arrive at Paisley’s house.

Before the car was in park mode in the driveway, she saw the front door open. The house wasn’t as large as Trinity had thought it would be, considering Paisley’s family money, but she knew Paisley now – she should have understood that the woman would have a modest home, not a mansion like her parents probably had.

“I’m so glad you’re here,” Paisley said, walking briskly as Trinity got out of the car, and wrapping her in a hug. “I’m sorry traffic sucked.”

“Worth it for this welcome,” Trinity replied, meaning it. “I missed you.”

Paisley pulled out of the hug and smiled at her.

“I missed you, too.”

Trinity then looked down to notice that Paisley wasn’t wearing any shoes.

“Why are you barefoot?”

“I saw you pull in and didn’t want to wait to put on shoes.”

“So cute,” Trinity said, smiling at her.
