Chapter 4: The Announcement

Upon their return to Longbourn, Mary and Edmund shared their happy news with the Bennet family, Mrs. Bennet being the first to know.

"Girls, girls, come quickly!" Mrs. Bennet cried, bustling into the sitting room where her daughters were gathered. "I have news!"

"What is it, Mother?" Jane asked, setting aside her embroidery.

"It's about Mary and Mr. Harrington," Mrs. Bennet said, a gleam in her eye. "They have decided to marry!"

Shortly before other guests had arrived at Longbourn, Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth were greeted warmly by the Bennet family, who were thrilled to see them again and had taken up a seat in the grand room, enjoying tea.

The room erupted into a flurry of activity as the sisters and their mother began discussing the upcoming nuptials. Lydia and Kitty were already talking about potential suitors, while Jane and Elizabeth exchanged knowing glances.

“Be assured Mother has already begun making arrangements for the wedding,” Lydia said.

“Indeed,” Mrs. Bennet said, smiling.

"I am so happy for Mary," Jane said, smiling at her sister. "And I must say, Mother, you seem to have everything well in hand."

Mrs. Bennet beamed with pride. "Of course, my dear," she said. "I have been planning weddings for years. This will be no different."

Elizabeth couldn't help but roll her eyes at her mother's enthusiasm. "I'm sure it won't be," she said dryly.

"But really, Mother," Jane said, placing a hand on Mrs. Bennet's arm. "Thank you for all your efforts. We appreciate everything you do for us."

Mrs. Bennet's eyes welled up with tears. "Oh, my dear Jane," she said, pulling her daughter into a tight embrace. "You always know just what to say to make your old mother happy."

Mary entered the room with Edmund, her face a picture of happiness, her sisters beamed back at her, none of them needing to say a word.

Mary and Edmund stepped forward to greet Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, Elizabeth enveloped Mary in a warm embrace.

"Congratulations, my dear," Elizabeth said, beaming with joy. "I am so happy for you and Edmund."

Mr. Darcy offered his congratulations as well, shaking Edmund's hand firmly. "You have made an excellent choice, sir," he said, with a nod of approval.

"Mary, my dear!" Mrs. Bennet exclaimed, clasping her daughter's hands. "I am overjoyed for you! Finally, my daughter has made a match that is truly worthy of her!"

Jane, Kitty, Lydia and Elizabeth exchanged glances, sharing in their mother's excitement. "Congratulations, Mary," Kitty said warmly. "I am so happy for you."

Mr. Bennet, ever the observer, simply smiled and nodded his approval. "Well done, my girl," he said. "Mr. Harrington is a fine young man, and I have no doubt that you two will be very happy together."

Mary beamed with happiness, feeling grateful for the love and support of her family. "Thank you, Father," she said. "I am truly blessed to have found someone who understands and appreciates me for who I am."

Edmund took Mary's hand, his own face glowing with joy. "I feel the same way, Mary," he said. "You are a remarkable woman, and I am honored to be your partner in life.
