"We will never bow down to the likes of Xerxes. We will defend our land and our people with our lives. Now, if you'll excuse us, we have important matters to attend to."

"I don't understand. All we want is for you to remain peaceful. Not to attack our subordinates. Is that that much to ask for?"

"Your subordinates?! You have come from far away, and think you have any right to dictate us what we shall do? Who's said Kharazmis are your subordinates? Who's said you have the right to protect them? Go back to your own land and protect it. Mind your own business."

The Grand Minister's expression is even more furious, "Do you mean we are in the wrong because we are keen to defend an innocent folk?"

Atiris answers calmly, "We have plundered and attacked Kharazmis, like any other tribe who were not our allies, because we needed their food and their people. We needed them as slaves to work for us, to provide for us. We needed their food to sustain us. We never had another chance. We are not farmers, so it's our nature to survive on what we have to plunder. We don't do it for amusement, unlike your ventures into new territories to expand your empire. This is what our Gods made us into."

"I have never heard such a nonsense for the justification of pillage and robbery."

Atiris stands firm and replies, "To you, it may be nonsense. But to us, it's a way of life. We don't ask for your understanding, nor do we need your advice. We are not your subordinates, nor do we wish to be. We are a proud people, and we will not bow down to any foreign power."

The Grand Minister scoffs, "You are a foolish people. You think you can withstand the might of the Persian Empire? You will only bring ruin upon yourselves."

Atiris meets his gaze, her eyes blazing with determination. "We are not foolish, nor are we weak. We have withstood many challenges and hardships, and we will continue to do so. We are not afraid of the Persian Empire, nor its mighty army."

The Grand Minister leans forward, his voice lowered. "Think carefully, Atiris. The Persian Empire can offer you protection and security. We can provide you with resources and wealth beyond your imagination. All we ask in return is your obedience and loyalty."

Atiris narrows her eyes, "Your idea of protection is to annex our land, impose your laws and force us to pay taxes. You offer us nothing but chains and shackles. We may be a small tribe, but we are free. And we will fight to stay that way."

The Grand Minister stands up, his face contorted with anger. "You have made your choice, Atiris. You have chosen war over peace. You will regret your decision."

Atiris remains unmoved, "We do not regret our decisions, nor do we fear your threats. We will defend our land and our people, no matter the cost."

And with that, the Grand Minister storms out of the tent, leaving Atiris and Mardock alone with their thoughts.
