Follow waymarks left into the wood and pass a Triglav National Park sign and information boards about the special flora of the area.
Around the signs, notice the wild mixture of plants , each carefully marked with small signs giving the Slovene and Latin names. These unobtrusive and useful signs are used along the path almost to the summit crags, to help identify the rich variety of plant life.
The track quickly gains height and then begins to level out a little as it traverses the rocky side of the high planina, and you walk through a mass of different perennials and small shrubs, mostly above knee height. It pays to linger along this beautiful balcony path through the flowers, with extensive views north towards Triglav.
You are now at the bottom of the summit slopes – the gardens continue up quite steeply to the base of the crags. As the height increases the species gradually change, but there is always the same incredible range of colours. The path continues pleasantly up, and just below the summit crags it traverses to the left beneath them.
Looking down you can see the planina with the koča, Bohinjska Bistrica on the floor of the valley, and behind that the Pokljuka plateau. Planina Zajamniki with its row of herders’ cottages can be seen in the distance straight ahead, while behind is the dark forested ridge of Debela peč and the peaks of the Julian Alps, with Triglav very much in charge. Over to the right is the inevitable line of the Karavanke, always on the edge of view, and then the Kamniško-Savinjske Alpe. Babji zob, the craggy top above Bled, marks the gorge of the Sava Bohinjka where it divides the plateaus of Pokljuka and Jelovica.
