Pamela eagerly gazed into her binoculars looking for the men and wondering why they were there. She was too far from the Prato residence to use her shotgun microphone and couldn’t hear what was going on in the house. Regretting that she didn’t bring the appropriate equipment, Pamela was at least pleased she was video recording the events. She could later identify who these ruffians were. Maybe there was something more about this case than met the eye. Daniel would be pleased if she could only figure it out.

As she frantically scanned the windows, Pamela could see one of the men pistol-whipping Joseph Prato. She realized the situation was more dire than expected. Moments later, the other men scattered throughout the house.

From the corner of her eye, Pamela saw a person. Running from the backyard through the field and towards the adjacent homes was a young Native woman. Examining her face and comparing it with photos in her file, Pamela realized it was Becca Prato, Fredrick’s younger sister.

Thankfully, she is safe and will call the cops, Pamela thought.

Pamela’s concern returned to the girl’s parents. Pamela hadn’t called the tribal police because she wanted the events to play out and learn the real intentions of the men who raided the residence. The downside of Pamela’s job was the laissez-faire policy that her mentor instilled in her. In times like these, her emotions were conflicted despite all of her years as a private investigator. Now that Becca was free and safely in the neighbor’s house, Pamela was relieved.
