Mary could hardly believe that it was Friday already. The week had sped by and though she had to admit that she’d been hurt when Jason had told her that he and Alison had decided that looking after the boys was too much for her, it was actually a relief. She had barely had time for anything this week. She’d called Stella on Tuesday evening to tell her about Cathy, knowing that Daphne would have wasted no time spreading the news and Stella had been very understanding. ‘You poor darling, what a terrible time that must have been for you but how wonderful that you’ve found each other now. You must introduce me to Cathy. I’d love to meet her.’ So Mary had promised she would.

Mary had also had the house valued ready to put it on the market, there was no rush as the bungalow wouldn’t be completed for a few months but the estate agent said he would put the feelers out. The rest of the week had been busy with tidying things up, ready for the photographs and for prospective buyers to look around. She would need to have a good sort out for the move, scaling down from a large house into a two-bedroomed bungalow was a daunting task, Mary realised. The loft was still full of things from Jason and Joanne’s childhood, as well as Paul’s things. The garage, the study, the shed in the garden were full of his own personal things that she had to sort through and decide what to keep and what to give away. She’d shed a few tears as she’d started to go through them. Jason had dropped by on Wednesday night to check she was okay and taken Bailey’s cage away for her. ‘It will only upset you seeing it empty,’ he’d said. He’d given her a big hug and promised that they would still see her regularly. And today Cathy was coming over to help Mary pack boxes. She really was blessed, Mary reminded herself. She had three wonderful children and had had a loving marriage. It was more than a lot of people had. Now she was ready to move on to the next stage of her life.
