Chapter 4

Sometimes the Cake Fails!

But now, oh Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.

—Isaiah 64:8

As we go through life, we like to think that we are doing everything perfect and without flaw. For most of the time, we are perfect in our own mind. Unfortunately, it takes time and getting older to gain the wisdom to see where we were going wrong in our past so we can apply it to our future. But in the present, I’m sure something is not quite perfect because we are not perfect, and we will always be learning until the day we die if we allow knowledge, correction, and forgiveness to be part of our lives. This is where I was. For the most part, I think I was doing many things right, but there was definitely some wrong, and it led to destruction in the future. Three very important principles in the kingdom of heaven are seed, time, and harvest. These principles apply to all areas of life. What we sow in every area today that harvest will be reaped later. If anger is sowed today, anger is harvested later. If love is sowed today, love is reaped later, like saving money. If you save now, you will have money later. How we are living and raising our children today makes an impact for yours and their futures.

Just as God is our potter who molds the clay (us), we are doing the same with our children. See, everything about heaven is the same here on earth. Marriage on earth between a man and a woman is the same as our marriage with Jesus. He is our groom. Marriage is a covenant unbroken on earth, and our relationship with Jesus is a covenant unbroken with Him. Jesus laid His life down for His bride (the church), and husbands are expected to do the same. Not only is this in the physical but it is in all ways. Meaning what he wants does not come before the wife and the family’s needs. Unfortunately, putting Christ first and His ways was not what the top priority was in my household for many years. We were Christians but not in relationship with Jesus. This was the top mistake because this led to many mistakes and consequences. I believe it starts at home with the parents. What we give our children is what they will become, and the best thing you can give them is Jesus. I wasn’t giving them enough Jesus. Praise the Lord they were getting some, and if you ask them today, they will say they were dragged to church every time the doors were open. But it’s in the details. See, my husband and I didn’t have many details, in depth knowledge of the word of God, and we are all suffering for it. And what I came to realize later in life was that others were suffering for it to.
