Chapter 21

Rosalie

Foster and I were watching TV after our late breakfast, discussing my plans for the future. When I heard the door opening, I bit down on my lower lip, knowing that I would have to put on a show so that Foster didn't question what was happening. The door opened slowly, and Oliver walked in. Immediately, he looked over at the couch. His eyes widened when he saw Foster. "Dude, you didn't tell me you were coming back early."

Foster jumped off the couch. "Yeah, I figured my little sister is here. It's not right to leave you to suffer."

"Very funny, Foster," I said, rolling my eyes. "Hey, Oliver. How was work today?" I said, offering him a huge smile.

His lips twisted slightly, and he raised a single eyebrow as he looked at me. "It was pretty good. Thank you. How was your day?"

"Oh, great. I was so excited to see Foster, and we went to breakfast, and we've just been discussing what jobs I should look for." I smiled at him winningly. "I'm so excited for us to pick up Alice tomorrow. Foster knows she's coming. I gather you didn't tell him, after all."

"I didn't tell him." Oliver shook his head. "No, I didn't tell him. Was I supposed to?"

"I thought you said you were going to. That's why I didn't call him."

"Uh-huh," Oliver said. "I think I'm going to need a beer."

"Really? This early?" I asked him.

"Yeah. So you're talking to—"

"Oh, Oliver. You're so funny. Beer in the afternoon," I said, interrupting him quickly.

Foster looked at me. "You okay, Sis?"

"I'm fine. Why?"

"Because all of a sudden you're acting like someone on a game show."

"What do you mean?"

"You're acting all chirpy and shit. And just ten minutes ago, you were bitching and moaning about not knowing what you wanted to do with your life."

"Oh, well, you know how it is. I'm just happy we're all home, and we can get the place ready for Alice's arrival tomorrow."

"So we need to figure out how this will work," Foster said, frowning. "I think I'll have a beer with you, Oliver."

"Sure thing, man. You want a pale ale?"

"Yeah, I'll have one."

"What about you, Rosalie?" Oliver asked me as he opened the fridge door.

"Sure. Why not feel like part of the group?"

"Well, you are part of the group," Oliver said with a smile. He took three bottles out of the fridge, and I watched as he popped the caps off each of them. He walked over to me and handed me a bottle. His fingers brushed mine, and I almost jumped back. "Here you go, Rosalie, my darling."

"Shut up," I hissed at him. "I'm still mad at you."

"Yet you're talking to me," he said softly.

"Only because Foster's here."

"Oh, so you don't want him to know that you're pissed off at me."

"I don't want him to know that we almost had sex. Do you?"

Oliver shrugged slightly. "I mean, I didn't do anything wrong. I walked away when you came on to me."

"You asshole," I said, glaring at him.
