Chapter 10

Riley

I go to close my bedroom door, and Sage catches it and pushes her way inside with a huge grin on her face. She flops down on the bed and says, “So, tell me everything.”

“The trail was amazing. I had no idea there was so much history here. Blaze said your dad has a journal with the history of the land? Do you think I could read it sometime?”

She waves her hand. “Of course, but that’s not what I want to know. I know the history; tell me about Blaze!”

“This isn’t weird? He’s your brother, after all,” I say.

She shrugs her shoulders. “Trust me, when you’re talking about the details, I’m NOT picturing Blaze in my head. I have my own hottie to drool over.”

“Are you ever going to tell me who it is?” I ask.

“Maybe, but not right now. Now stop stalling and talk.”

I laugh. “Well, he gave me a tour of the ranch. We saw his family’s graveyard, some of the cabins, and then we had lunch. We talked about the ranch and the reservation. We talked about his past relationships and mine. I told him a bit about Jed, not a lot. He told me some stories from when you guys were kids.”

Sage cringes. “Nothing too embarrassing, I hope?”

“No, just some funny ones. We stopped in and saw your mom and dad. He gave me a tour of the house. I might have drooled a bit too much over the library!”

“Did he show you his old room?”

“Yes, and yours.”

“What did you think?”

“I teased him about Captain America since I’m a Thor girl myself. We talked about an Avengers movie marathon.”

“God, you really are the perfect girl for him.”

I laugh. “Then we came back here.” I shrug my shoulders.

“And…”

“And what?” I try to play dumb.

“Oh, come on. They saw sparks from that kiss from space! It was hot!”

“I knew you were watching from the window!”

“Damn straight, I was. I had to make sure my brother treated my friend right.” She laughs. “But come on, give me something. Was it a good kiss?”

“It was the best kiss of my life.”

“Yes! So, do you have another date planned?”

“Yes, day after tomorrow. He said a picnic dinner down by the creek. I offered to make dessert, He’s going to take care of the rest.”

“Oh, any idea what you’re going to make?”

“Yes, my Orange Crush cupcakes. I haven’t made them in forever. They’re my favorite!”

“Please say you’ll make enough for us here at the house too!”

“Of course, but I need to head to town to get what I need.”

“Well, I have a running grocery list. We can go into town tomorrow and grab everything. Sound good?”

“Perfect!”

“I need to check on dinner. It should be almost done. I’m so happy for you guys!”

“Thanks.”

After she’s left, I flop on the bed and the day runs through my head.

I have a date.

With Blaze.

I have a date with Blaze.

Wow. I’m never that blunt where it comes to asking him if it was a date. Around him, I have this whole new confidence.
