SNIFF LIKE A SNAKE

Watch a snake and you will think it’s sticking its tongue out at you over and over. It isn’t being rude; it’s just giving you a sniff. A snake sniffs with its tongue, collecting odor particles from the air. These bits of smelly air molecules are then sent to a special pair of organs found on the roof of the snake’s mouth. The Jacobson’s organ, also known as the vomeronasal organ, relays the smells to the snake’s brain. The snake then knows whether to slither away because of danger or to go after its prey. How do you think your tongue would do at smelling the world around you?

THINGS YOU’LL NEED

Several smelly spices

A partner

Blindfold (like a bandana or a knitted hat you can pull down over your eyes and nose)

Small plate
